3 Songs Released from Jakob Armstrong’s Solo Project: Jakob Danger

Green Day frontman and guitarist, Billie Joe Armstrong has some talented kids with music born in their veins. Both sons, Joey and Jakob, have embarked following in their father’s footsteps to music. While Joey is working with longtime band Swimmer’s (previously Emily’s Army), younger brother Jakob has decided to go the solo route and working on creating his own career as a musician as he recently signed to Burger Records.

Three songs have been released via Soundcloud and Youtube on the younger Armstrong’s solo project, self titled as Jakob Danger. Jakob Armstrong’s songs were posted in late June and the suspense is already building in anticipation for this album to be released.

So far, the sound is phenomenal. Classic Cali vibe and cool acoustic settings, with some songs featuring older brother Joey on the drums. The melodic voice behind “King of the World,” “Waiting to Dance” and “Don’t Try” doesn’t sound like it’s coming from someone who’s just 16 years old…already mind blowing.

Check out the songs below:

This project has promise, and it’s one for any die hard Green Day fan to get behind… already in anticipation for this album’s release!

State Champs release title track to upcoming album “Around The World And Back”

Everyone seems to be looking to the the pop punk group from Albany, New York this fall, as State Champs prepare to release their next full length LP, Around The World And Back.

The quintet State Champs has been on the tip of everyone’s tongues this year, and for good reason—their brand of pop-punk is emotional, energetic and even the right amount of poppy. But the band has won over plenty of people due to their softer side, which is why the title track of their new album, Around The World And Back, a gorgeous acoustic duet with Jule Vera front woman, Ansley Newman.

Being an acoustic track, this song easily draws the listener in with the pairing of soft guitar and the voices from Derek DiScanio and Ansley Newman.

DiScanio even described the song as something ‘different’ for the band and something beautiful:

“‘Around The World And Back’ is a song about commitment issues and finding a way to overcome them, live in the moment and embrace every opportunity at hand. It’s the first duet song we’ve ever done, and we’re very excited about it. Ansley’s voice is incredible and it’s very refreshing to hear the first female voice featured on a State Champs track.”

Sleeping With Sirens Debut “Better Off Dead” Video

One week ago, Sleeping With Sirens released the music video for “Better Off Dead”, one of the many tracks off of their latest release ‘Madness‘.

The video has creative imagery alongside focusing on the message repeating back to suicide and depression tendencies. In the video, the band plays inside a beautiful house, but the inside is dark and torn apart… very relatable to that feeling when one says they are ‘Okay’ when in reality, they are broken.

All in all, another wonderful piece of Sleeping with Sirens to add to any fan’s collection of music videos. Check out the video for “Better Off Dead” below :

That Canadian Band You Never Thought You Needed : 5 Reasons To Listen To Mariana’s Trench

Mariana’s Trench are a band who started out in Vancouver, BC in early 2001. Producing three albums and touring, they have gained a fanbase widely in Canada and various other countries, but seem somewhat unknown in the states and are highly underrated compared to other musicians topping the charts.

Here are a few reasons to give this band a listen:

1. Josh Ramsay

5 Reasons To Listen To Mariana's Trench

Most well-known for his ever changing hair color, tight pants, dancing and vocal range, the frontman and lead singer, Josh Ramsay, has a very inspiring story.

Josh Ramsay was born June 11, 1985, grew up in a very musical family, with his mother being a vocal coach and his father owning a recording studio. Ramsay also shared the love of music and started singing at the age of 13.

Throughout high school, Ramsay struggled with an eating disorder, anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa. Many Mariana’s Trench songs are dedicated to the singer’s personal struggle through this such as those entitled, “Skin and Bones” and “Feeling Small”.
Later on toward the end of high school Ramsay developed an addiction to heroin, often causing him to be kicked out of school and be late for band practices and shows. He later went on to go to rehab where he wrote a letter about his drug addiction in which he later turned into a song called “Lover Dearest”.

Throughout his struggles with eating disorders and drug addiction, Ramsay kept music as his end goal and his determination to over come it all, which can be taken as a positive message to others with one’s own personal struggles in life.

2. Humor

5 Reasons To Listen To Mariana's Trench

Humor is a big part of Mariana’s Trench. With various videos displaying the band’s off stage antics, hilarious music videos or even behind the scenes with the comical “Matt Webb Hours”, this band will make you laugh somehow.

3. Vocal medley’s that will blow you away

5 Reasons To Listen To Mariana's Trench

All of the member’s of Mariana’s Trench do sing, and the medleys and harmonies between them all is amazing to hear within many of their songs. Sure, not all of the members grew up with vocal training like Ramsay… but it is very impressive when all their unique voices come together. Check out the Queen inspired intro for “Shake Tramp” and tell me that isn’t amazing… 😉

4. Celebrity Connections

5 Reasons To Listen To Mariana's Trench

Yupp… you heard it here, this little known Canadian band has many connections. From being found by Nickleback frontman, Chad Kroger to even Josh Ramsay himself finding Carly Rae Jepsen and helping her rise to fame, this band has a lot of pop culture covered.

Ramsay has appeared in a few guest vocal spots, once in Jepsen’s “Sour Candy” and in R&B artist Danny Fernandes “Hit Me Up”.

5. The Dancing

5 Reasons To Listen To Mariana's Trench

The dance moves are everything. Check out some of Josh Ramsay and the band’s finest moments, out of hilarity with puppets, dressed as pirates to even breaking it down in a middle of a 1920’s scene… Mariana’s Trench has it all and the moves to prove it.

Mariana’s Trench is releasing their fourth studio album entitled “Astoria” due in October, along with plans for a tour later in the year. Singles such as “Here’s to the Zeros”, “Pop 101” and “One Love” have been released, and get one even more excited to hear “Astoria” in the full.

Music and Media : Twitter Account Isolates the Vocals of Your Favorite Artists

Ever wanted to know how Billie Joe Armstrong sounds accapella, belting out the chorus to ‘Boulevard of Broken Dreams’? Well, now you can thanks to the Twitter account and music lover, @IsolatedVocals.

Recently covered in an article by Alternative Press, the admin of the account was overwhelmed with joy and thousands of new followers, all to hear the little 30sec creations of vocals of their favorite artists.

Now, the admin has posted requests due to the popularity of the account, with the statement, “Isolating vocals is a long process, and some songs I just cannot do,” they write. “What I mean by that, is the frequencies in some songs between the vocals and instruments re too close together. So if I cannot do your song, please don’t hate me for it, as some songs are just not possible.”

Whatever the reason, we can’t hate too much on this account, as the isolations already done blow me away.

Acoustic Corner: “When You Were Young” cover by Fearless Vampire Killer’s Kier Kemp

Kier Kemp, vocalist of Fearless Vampire Killers revealed a wonderful acoustic cover of “When You Were Young” originally by the band The Killers.

In this rendition, Kemp’s vocals bring a softness to the original song by Brandon Flowers, and brings this cover and song into a whole new light.

It’s definitely been added to my list of favorite covers, check out the performance below :

Bring Me The Horizon release “True Friends” single

Another wonderful single off of Bring Me The Horizon’s upcoming album “That’s The Spirit” was released, and let me just say… this one might be my favorite of the singles to date. “True Friends” brings the electronic sound that we have become familiar with this album, but also packs a punch as the song is a true heavy hitter and fun.

That’s The Spirit” becomes more and more promising as time goes on, and will be released in full on September 11, 2015 via Columbia Records.
