Music and Media: Adele’s “Hello” Gets The Pop Punk Treatment

“Hello” has been topping charts and has been an all out media sensation with Adele’s new album “25”. Various covers have sprung up all over the internet, parodies, Tumblr posts you name it, it is out there.

Well prepare to give it one more try as YouTube cover genius Anthony Vincent has put a pop punk spin on things, giving his own Green Day circa “Boulevard of Broken Dreams” era inspired take on the track and it is amazingly well executed. From vocal mimicking of Green Day’s own Billie Joe Armstrong, to guitar riffs and the heartbreaking lyrics of Adele, this “Hello” cover is definitely one that will be remembered.

What other mainstream songs would you like to see in a pop punk/Green Day rendition?

“LA Devotee” brings a fun and faced paced energy, which will make the album almost reminiscent of PATD past, but also a brand new adventure for the band. This new album and direction is something all fans are hungry to hear after the previews and fantastic singles.

Jakob Danger previews new music in hilarious music video

Yes, the youngest Armstrong is back with more music. Jakob uploaded a video titled “What Is This” to his youtube channel… and the video features the teenager playing guitar, boredom, dancing to karate fighting with an appearance of mom (Hi Addie :3 ) and it is all kinds of wonderful.

The tune is simplistic and done acoustically, but also fun and upbeat to narrate the hilarity throughout the video. Definitely excited to see what Jakob Danger brings to the music scene with his personality, humor and of course, the alternative Cali-vibed music he is creating. Keep it up Jakob Danger!

Good Charlotte announce Reunion and “MakeShift Love”

20 years, 5 albums… Good Charlotte had one hell of a legacy in the emo-alternative genre and many of us can probably know atleast one that changed our childhood or awkward middle school years forever.

Even Twitter is overjoyed with this news:

In more recent news, all celebrated when the band released a new single entitled “Makeshift Love” and a hilarious video of the band, and  including the face of ex-My Chemical Romance bassist, Mikey Way, to fuel the nostalgia love even further.

I can’t help but be hyped for the return of Good Charlotte, and the memories of my middle school punk days. It’s going to be a great year and super excited to see what is to come from such a legendary band back in the business.

Check out “Makeshift Love” below :

Seaway release new album entitled Colour Blind

Canadian band Seaway released their newest full length album entitled “Colour Blind” on October 23, 2015. Colour Blind  follows up to 2013’s Hoser, and Seaway’s previous Ep titled All in My Head.  Before the release, various tracks were able to stream online which helped to gain excitement and a following for the album and allow fans to preorder, as well as promote the current tour with Knuckle Puck and Sorority Noise.

Since it’s release, the album encompases an energy that is very unique to Seaway, as well as the typical pop punk sound and genre. With so many new albums in the scene this year (State Champs, Neck Deep etc. just to name a few), Seaway still stand their ground as Colour Blind fits the mold of the scene, but also surprises as a whole and stands as it’s own unique and fun album.

With various fast paced tracks such as “Best Mistake”, “Freak” and “Slam” the album is fun and has an energy to keep one’s attention, as well as hit the emotional sides with tracks such as “Goon” and “Turn Me Away”.  Colour Blind definitely is an album that will have you singing along and get one excited to see Seaway play some songs live on the current tour this fall.

The Academy Is… Reunion Tour and 10 Year Anniversary of ‘Almost Here’

Last month’s news was a big one for fellow pop punkers, especially those who miss the early 2000’s days were Fall Out Boy and Panic! at the Disco were kings alike and toured many a times alongside band, The Academy Is…

As during their set at Riot Fest in Chicago on Saturday, September 12th, The Academy Is… played through the entirety of 2005 ‘Almost Here’ album to a huge crowd.

As the band released an official statement about playing Riot Fest together online before the show back in May ;

Hello old friends,
We are pleased to announce that we will be reuniting the band for a our first show in many years. In September, we will come together for Chicago’s RIOT FEST in Douglas Park to perform our beloved debut album “Almost Here” in its entirety. This is a 10 Year Anniversary Show! This is a Reunion Show! This is a Farewell Show! We are extremely excited to take a trip down memory lane — in the city that we call home.
See you soon!
Xo. The Academy Is…

No one expected what would come next.

As the biggest surprise of the night was the next announcement, as frontman William Beckett announced the band would embark on an ‘Almost Here’ 10th anniversary tour kicking off this December, going into early 2016.

The lineup for this reunion tour is William Beckett on vocals, Mike Carden on guitar, Adam Siska on bass and Andy “The Butcher” Mrotek on drums. No word on if Ian Crawford from Never Shout Never will continue to fill in for ‘Almost Here’s era guitarist, Tom Conrad, throughout the tour, as the original guitarist parted ways with the band back in 2006 and did not play Riot Fest alongside the band.

This tour marks the first time the band has toured exclusively since late frontman, William Beckett leaving the band to pursue a solo music career back in early 2011.

Handguns premiere “Disenchanted” off of upcoming album

Harrisburg, Pennsylvania natives, pop-punk band Handguns consists of vocalist Taylor Eby, guitarists Brandon Pagano and Kyle Vaught, bassist CJ Wilson, and drummer Ryan Pyle. The band pulls inspiration and sound from those such as The Wonder Years and Menzingers, and brings out the upbeat pop-punk melodies with just the right amount of emotion, sincerity and rawness in their songs.

Following up their sophomore album, Life Lessons released in 2014, Handguns are set to release their next full length album, entitled “Disenchanted” on November 13, 2015 via Pure Noise Records (Pre-Order Available). The second single off of the album has been debuted, and one can listen to the title track “Disenchanted” below:

I have been personally following Handguns for quite some time now, since seeing them perform over the summer on Warped Tour 2015, and have been eagerly awaiting new music from this band. So far, the new album seems promising and a lot of fun, as the previewed singles (“Self Portrait” and “Disenchanted”) show just how much Handguns have grown since starting out in 2008, and how much the experienced gained has changed their music for the better.
